Learn Italian in Cagliari, the city of pink flamingos and paradise beaches

Picture Rome and you think of the Colosseum. Picture Venice and you think of canals. But there’s a city in Italy where your morning grammar lesson can end with your feet in the sea, wild pink flamingos overhead, and a language you’re falling in love with, one word at a time.

That city is Cagliari, the sun-soaked capital of Sardinia — and it’s where we call home.

At L’Accademia, our scuola di italiano is more than a classroom. It’s the door we open onto real Italian and Sardinian life. Here’s why so many students choose to imparare l’italiano with us, right here in Cagliari.

The city of pink flamingos (i “Nuovei”)

Yes, it’s true. Cagliari is one of the very few cities on earth with a permanent colony of wild pink flamingos, and once you see them, you’ll understand why we’re so proud of it.

They live in Parco di Molentargius, a stunning nature reserve tucked right inside the city, just a short bike ride from our classrooms. At some point the flamingos fell so in love with Cagliari that they stopped their migration altogether. They simply stayed.

Parola del giorno: in Sardinian dialect, flamingos are called “Genti Arrubia” (the red people) or “Nuovei.” For generations, locals have seen these elegant birds as a symbol of good fortune and guardians of the city’s wetlands.

Hundreds of pink wings lifting off against a deep blue sky is the kind of moment that stays with you. And at our school, it can be part of your everyday life after class.

Il Poetto: eight kilometers of pure Mediterranean vibe

Ask anyone in Cagliari where they head after work or school and you’ll hear the same answer every time: “Vado al Poetto.”

Il Poetto is Cagliari’s beloved beach, almost eight kilometers of soft white sand, just minutes from the city center by bus or along a beautiful seaside bike path. It isn’t simply a beach. It’s a way of life, a daily ritual our students fall into almost without noticing.

Along the promenade you’ll find the chioschi, the beach kiosks where locals gather for a caffè, a chat, or an aperitivo as the sun goes down.

Local word you need to know: when something is absolutely perfect, relaxing, and beautiful, Cagliaritani say it’s “fogu” (literally “fire,” used to mean “awesome” or “lit”). A cold drink at the Poetto after a grammar lesson is pure fogu.

Why choose our scuola di italiano in Cagliari

Many students head to Italy’s big northern cities to learn Italian, only to find themselves surrounded by other tourists. In Cagliari the experience is different. It’s real, warm, and genuinely Sardinian.

With us, you’ll practice your Italian with the fruit sellers at the market, chat with the bartenders at the Poetto, and live in a city where life moves at a relaxed, healthy pace. This is what it means to truly imparare l’italiano: not from a textbook alone, but from the people and the place itself.

And when class ends, your classroom doesn’t. It simply moves outside, to the beach, to the market, to a table full of new friends who feel like family.
